Karen of New York also thanked FabricLovers.com for delivering the fabric she ordered because apart from delivering it fast, she also got high quality fabrics, which were wrapped safely and securely. For that reason, she highly recommends FabricLovers.com to all other consumers who want to purchase quality fabric products.

FabricLovers.com is a premium online fabric store. Founded in 2007 in California, the online retailer has been purchased by Beth, from Columbus, Ohio. The excited new owners of FabricLovers.com have a goal of maintaining a five star customer service level, in both English and Spanish. Another objective is to bring in a number of new unique fabric patterns, as well as other new product offerings.

Blog Interview and Give-Away!

Today I'm excited to introduce you to Tracey Marcrum, a purse designer with a unique edge. Her purses are sure to catch your eye and ignite your imagination! Tracey has also graciously offered one of her bags for a give-away, and she is also offering a discount if you'd like to purchase a bag from her, so make sure to read to the end to find out how to qualify for the contest and/or use the discount. Now, on to the interview:

FL: Tell us a little about yourself and your company

I am from a family of artists; my wonderful grandparents were artists-- grandmother was a high school art teacher and my grandfather was a fashion illustrator and product illustrator.  So I was trained at an early age in art.  I began making handbags after a trip to New York City. I was there as a treat for myself because it was my birthday, and I wanted to see all the art NYC is known for. While there,  I bought a Chanel handbag.  There in that beautiful city, with my wonderful bag, I saw all the other women with all the top designer accessories and bags--- but it wasn't what I thought it would be! Don't get me wrong-- the art was AWESOME! But it was as if everyone had the same bag!!

So I went home, put my Chanel back in it's dust bag, and sat down and designed the most wild bag ever.  I did go back to New York later, and I took that bag.  Women all over the place were asking me, "Where did you get that bag?"  I knew then that is what I wanted to do--design my own!!  So I began numbering my bags (never to repeat a design) and I am at #2388.  I design, make each pattern, make each bag--from concept to completion.   I did my first art fest in Eatonville, Washington in 2004.  I didn't know how I would do or how it would turn out there.  I think I had maybe 20 bags....I had a few of my paintings hanging to make it look good...funny-- looking back on that day--though it was  wet, cold, and raining, I sold out!

FL: Where do you get your inspiration for your designs?

Well, all over the world, being a junkie for fashion from all periods of time, I love it all.  I see my designs out doors with the colors....Overseas with the rule of there is no rule! In Italy when I was there the women dress to the nines...all the time. Pride in everything....  Then there is fabric....I see something and I can see in my mind what the out come will look like...

FL: What is your favorite part of the design process?

Wow... fabric stores, second hand stores....I see so much I can do with everything around me.  I will walk around a store and pick out fabric...seeing all I can do with it...I go to my studio and start laying things out, fabric, gems, vintage jewelry, feathers....so much....

FL: Describe one of your more unusual designs

...hmmmm well, taking this peacock fabric I had found  in Washington state (was it really 8 years ago!?)...I feathered the bird on the fabric just like it was on the real bird, from the crown to the tail feathers...then painted the fabric flowers to make them  pop out.  Or cutting out  leather leaves-- then hand sewing them on fabric.  Then sewing gemstones on top...too many to list and still working on more.

FL: What are your favorite color combinations right now?

For me I try doing all combinations... I don't do just one color or combination because everyone out there likes it different, and to keep making what is in my brain I keep seeing more ways to do it...

FL: And please tell us a fun fact about yourself

In 2006 when I was in Italy I found a fabric store in Pistoia. I walked by their window and was in AWE! I went in and, with me not speaking good Italian and the shopkeeper no English... I wanted this piece of fabric...so I left, ran back to my hotel and asked them to write me a note...it said...I want 30m (which I didn't know what that would be in yards), how much?...and then he wrote something else...I asked, what does that say??? He told me, give me a good deal....so I ran back to the store handed him the note, I said "see"...he said "see"....and I would point, he wrote price.  I had so much fabric I had to buy a new suitcase to bring it back home....

Authentic African Fabric Coming Soon!

I love the bright colors and bold designs in African fabric! They have such an earthy, honest, happy appeal to them.

Well, traveling to the shop right now are our first bolts of Authentic African fabric, and I'm really excited for a couple of reasons. These fabrics will be perfect for use in quilts, clothing, and crafts. They are 100% cotton and are made in Mali, West Africa which is known for it's fabric design--each item is guaranteed authentic! The price point is very affordable (especially considering today's cotton prices), as they will be priced at $8.49 per yard.

And I've saved the best for last--these items are Fair Trade which means you are not only getting some great prints for yourself, but you are MAKING A DIFFERENCE in the lives of these African people!  The man in the picture above is our supplier. Until recently, he used to live in Mali, and it's his village that benefits from your purchase.

So here's a sneak peak of some of the delightful designs that are headed our way:

What ideas are running through your head on projects to use these for?

Quilt Market Meetup Winners!

We had a wonderful time at the Quilt Market Meetup! It was held at the Blue Lemon restaurant in Salt Lake City, and it was PACKED! Hubby and I got caught in a rain shower about 1 1/2 hours before the event was to begin, and were afraid of what the rain would do to the Meetup as they had planned on using outside as an overflow area. Thankfully the rain stopped, and it's a good thing. With everyone inside, there was barely any room to move around.

As a sponsor of the event, we gave away two $50 Gift Certificates. Here's a picture of the women who won:

I really enjoyed meeting these two women and finding out more about them. They both have very successful blogs and are quite accomplished in the sewing and crafting world. They have a lot of interesting information to pass on--from sewing, to crafting, to cooking, to family, so be sure to check them out at The Cottage Home and Ucreate with Kids and tell 'em I sent ya!

I didn't take as many pictures of the Meetup as I should have--I was too busy enjoying the time meeting everyone! But here are some good overview shots.

As you can see, it was pretty packed. But it was a great night of meeting lots of interesting people!

Quilt Market Meetup Sponsor

As many of you probably know, there are two major International Quilt Markets that happen throughout the year for the trade. The next one happens to be this week in Salt Lake City! My hubby and I will be attending, and the excitement is starting to build!

I love Salt Lake City, and about 8 years ago or so, hubby had tried to get transferred out there with his job, but it did not work out. I love the mountains and all of the outdoor activities the area has to offer. The lower real estate prices were very attractive as well, and because of the large Mormon population, it's very family-friendly. Alas it was not to be, but I'm looking forward to seeing the beautiful scenery again.
Another exciting thing about going to SLC is that we are one of the sponsors of the Blogger's Quilt Market Meetup! It's going to be a great time of meeting new friends and networking, plus lots of goodies and prizes. FabricLovers.com is donating two $50 gift certificates to give away that night! The event was sold out, but since the weather is looking good for the weekend, there is a possibility of having some overflow room. So, if you're in the area and want to attend, be sure to send an email to quiltmarketmeetup@gmail.com to get on the list!  Then be sure to leave a comment here so we can make sure to meet up, too!
